With the end of the war and the imminent restructuring and repartition of the world, it is crucial to decide which side of the world we belong to, who we align with, and against whom we will stand.

The President of the United Mexican States has called a roundtable conference to decide the future of our beloved nation. Gradually, representatives from the oil, sugar, textile, and tourism industries began to arrive. They gather around a gear-shaped table, and well-dressed industries face each other; from afar, hammers, sickles, and all kinds of tools can also be seen approaching. Three hours after the important meeting, a voice starts to murmur repeatedly:
INDUSTRIALIZATION
Another voice joins the small shout that had ceased to be a murmur:
INDUSTRIALIZATION
To the unison cry:
INDUSTRIALIZATION
INDUSTRIALIZATION
INDUSTRIALIZATION
It is clear: industrialization is imminent; it is the revolution’s pending goal!

The President picks up the phone to request foreign credits and secure private investments. He negotiates the large and juicy amount, and without hesitation, signs the loan, knowing that repayment will come later and perhaps he won’t even have to contribute a penny.

Tools, wheels, gears, and coins arrive from the North, from our “benefactor” neighbor, bringing with them the inspiration to build a machine-man who will drive the gears of our industrialization. Machine-men who will breathe and exhale smoke, filling production lines, and assembling wheels to achieve the new goal of the revolution.
Artist Josué Mejía presents an exhibition with various vignettes speculating on the processes Mexico had to undergo on its path to industrialization after World War II and at the beginning of what we now know as the Cold War. A time when the drive for progress completely overshadowed the potential effects and consequences that industry could bring.
